Although it's not visible and its definition is debatable, the term has gained popularity among sky watchers.

The black moon can denote the second new moon in a calendar month or the third new moon in a four-moon astronomical season.

This year, the black moon falls on Friday, May 19th, being the third new moon of spring.

Unlike a bright full moon, the new moon is obscured by the sun's light, resulting in darker skies ideal for stargazing and meteor showers.

In lunar calendars and pagan practices, the new moon holds significance, marking the beginning or end of a cycle and providing an opportunity for new intentions.

Another black moon is expected in November 2024, featuring two new moons.
